JEEP XJ CHEROKEE BUSHWACKER INSTALL
NEW CUT OUT FLARES

Here are some before pictures of Mako without the new flares. Not bad but when we added the new 15x8 Street Lock Wheels and Procomp MT 32x11.5R15 we had some rubbing that was eating into the tires. So a call to Mako Offroad parts and we got our new flares ready to install. NOTE - this is a major cutting project so be prepared.

Holy COW where did the fender go. First of all the directions are poorly written but whose are easy to understand. I installed mine differently. First you will need a sawzall I used a cutoff wheel and after using 5 wheels I could have afforded a sawzall. I did the front fenders first and if I could do over I would do them last because they are easier. Some helpful tips. Dont do the prepwork first. First remove the old flares, unless you are planning on keeping them do what I did and just undo all the bolts and rip them out.
Front flares - sorry no picture, but these are pretty easy. Once the old flare is removed and the outer metal ring then the cutting begins. I removed everything below the marker light on the front. Then I measured 5 inches in from the front of the fender below the marker and made a line vertically, then I basically drew a line that matched the fender pattern in the directions and cut. On the other side of the fender (rear) I measured 7.25 inches in and drew the same line and cut it off. To be honest I just eyeballed the drawing in the driections and then marked my own curves. If you follow the directions they ask for tagents and geometry things I never paid attention to in College. Once cut then I put the flare up to make sure it fit, which it did perfectly. Then I used a punch and marked the holes in the fender and drilled holes with a drill bit 11/64 I believe. Then I prepared the fender by putting on the trim and cutting the spacers. When cutting the spacers I just put the hose to the gap and cut with scissors. Then one by one I put a screw with washer through the hole, the spacer on the back side and screwed the flares in. The only screw I had trouble with is the one where the bend is it should be longer but you can get it in with a little muscle.

The rear was much more of a challenge. This is because of all the metal you need to cut. My suggestion is to cut all the metal just before the outer fender and inner fender meet. This will save you some time. Also cut the 2 inch notch just below where the door closes on the fender and over towards the rear about 1 more inch. When lining the flares up remember the one mounts on the door itself it took me 20 minutes to figure that one out. Also when installing the rear flares you will have to push and squeeze to get them to fit and line up right. Just be patient. In the end it is worth it they also give you cool door jam covers to hide all the nasty cutting you did.

All in all it took me 1 full day to do and lots of cutting.

In the end it was worth it because I gained at least 2-4 more inches of clearance so we can go with 33s next.
